2007 DUATHLETE OF THE YEAR
From 2007 USA Triathlon Yearbook
GRAND MASTERS MALE
San Antonio, Texas
2007 brought duathlon success and the fulfillment of childhood dreams for Grand Masters Male Duathlete of the Year, Larry Czelusta of San Antonio, Texas. Czelusta finished the 2007 season with three division wins at IRP Striders Duathlon, USAT Long Course Duathlon Nationals, and ITU Long Course Duathlon World Championships. "It took thousands of 'trials of miles' and 16 years until the blessing of the 'big prize' in Richmond," said Czelusta of his ITU World Championship win. The former weightlifter -- turned runner -- turned duathlete -- is exceedingly thankful for all his successes, duathlon and otherwise. Being named Male Grand Masters Duathlete of the Year was an honor Czelusta accepted with much appreciation. "Considering the caliber of so many great Grand Master duathletes, I am honored, humbled and grateful for this award," said Czelusta. The podiatrist and part-time business owner often competes along side his son, Jesse, also a competitive duathlete. For Czelusta, duathlon is about more than winning races. His favorite aspect of the sport is "definitely the giving, encouraging, and friendly people involved in the sport, from race officials, staff, volunteers to competitors." Czelusta looks to 2008 as a year to savor the blessings of 2007 and certainly another year of running, riding, and enjoying multisport.
